Bruce Rowland was born in Melbourne, and in the 1960's and 1970's played keyboards with various pop bands before becoming one of Australia's most sought after session players and arrangers. He has written over 2000 jingles for radio and television, and in the early 1980's he wrote the score for The Man from Snowy River, which achieved double platinum status and has gone on to become one of the best-known film scores in the world. He won AFI Awards for best score for The Man from Snowy River in 1982, for Phar Lap in 1983 and for Rebel in 1985. He also won a Penguin Award for All the Rivers Run in 1983, an ARIA award in 2002 for his score to The Man from Snowy River Arena Spectacular, and wrote and conducted the music for the opening of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. He was honoured in 2006 with the APRA International Achievement Award for his work in film. Bruce has written scores for over 40 films in Australia and the U.S.A., and his latest film, The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello, was nominated for a 2006 British Academy Award and an Oscar. Although thoroughly grounded in classical film scoring techniques he also uses the very latest in technology. His homes in both Melbourne and Los Angeles each contain a recording studio, fully equipped with the latest in computer music technology. He is therefore able to produce scores ranging from fully orchestral (using, as he often does, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) to fully synthesized, and anywhere in between, using acoustic or electronic intsruments as required. Bruce does a considerable amount of work in the United States, and lives in Melbourne and Los Angeles. Click here for photos of Bruce Rowland and his studio. |
